Eldridge related to Ralph, my father and her grandson, that she had travelled from the Carolinas to Alabama in a wagon train when she was young. However, both the 1880 and 1900 U.S. Census lists her as born in Alabama. But, the 1880 Census lists her father being born in Tennessee and her mother in South Carolina, while the 1900 Census has Georgia as the birthplace of her father and South Carolina for her mother. So, it's not exactly clear where she was born.

In 1880 she was living at Union Church, Bullock, Alabama with her widowed mother Sarah J. McMillin and two brothers, Frank and Lenard H. About 1881 Eldridge married William Benjamin Rhodes and started to have children. In June of 1900 Eldridge and William were living in Pine Level, Al., so I assume Eldridge moved there to be with William at the time of the marriage. William rented land on which he had a farm and their many children worked for them there. Eldridge died the day of Ralph's High School graduation in the city of Montgomery, 1937.
